FIRESTORM ANNOUNCE CONSTRUCTION OF NEW ARENA, ENTERTAINMENT DISTRICT
World Class FBA Facility Fast-Tracked to be Completed for 2018-2019 Season

March 21, 2017

Today, the Lorain Firestorm announced the construction of a replacement arena for their home of the last 50 years, The Fireplace. It will coincide with the Firestorm 50th season anniversary where plenty as been planned to be done as we head for the special event.

The new arena has an expected seating capacity of 17,500 and will feature improved sightlines and amenities.

“After serving our team and community for fifty years, we are pleased to announce that by that anniversary, our team will call a new, state-of-the-art arena its home,” said Powell Brajkovic, a representative for owner Stanley Lowther, adding, “We are seeking to improve the experience for our fans with wider concourses, a greater variety of concessions to coincide with changing and expanding diets, as well as the ability to offer Luxury Suites, which the current Fireplace lacks.”

The new arena will be anchoring “The Precinct: Lorain,” a mixed-use development consisting of shops, hotels, and theaters. The project, to be sited on the plot of land which currently features the existing Fireplace arena, as well as an plot encompassing 110 acres directly to the east of the existing arena site.

“We also look toward our team’s future, by preserving the past,” added Brajkovic during the announcement. “The Fireplace, a symbol of the team for the last fifty years, will not be torn down but instead reused to fit the project.” Plans outlined at the conference call for the old 350,000 square foot arena to be gutted once the team moves to the new arena, and transformed into a three-level building, with ground-floor retail, a performing arts center in the middle, and a community sportsplex occupying the top level.”
