The Furry Basketball Player's Association [FBPA] is a union made up of all FBA players currently under the employ of the Furry Basketball Association. Established in 1965, its purpose in summation is to uphold the rights and interests of all FBA players in matters concerning how the league and its employees are governed.
Responsibility of the FBPA
- To represent and defend the collective rights and interests of all FBA players as a union.
- To negotiate with FBA Owners and the FBA Commissioner in establishing a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
- To investigate and report any wrongdoing or violation committed against its members.
Rules and Regulations
The rules and bylaws of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Structure of the FBPA
The FBPA is headed by an Executive Director (not a player) and a Player President, with a Player Representative from each of the 24 FBA teams elected by their teammates to speak for them in FBPA meetings and represent the team as an entity. All active FBA players are members of the FBPA and have a voice in preceedings.
Rules for being a Team Representative:
To be a representative, a player must be competent, level-headed, and a respectable veteran able to represent their team and league with dignity and class. The head representative must be a veteran (suggested 4 years professional experience) and should be somewhat synonymous with the team image if possible (qualified players who have been with their teams longer are more likely to be chosen). An alternate team representative is also chosen to represent their team in the event the primary representative is unable to fulfill their duties. The alternate team rep may also assist their primary rep in speaking for their respective team in FBPA meetings and press conferences. There are no experience restrictions for any player chosen for the position of alternate team representative.
A new team representative may be chosen each year, after the playoffs have concluded. However, excessive cycling of new team reps without good reason is frowned upon. Furthermore, if a team representative is traded or deemed unworthy of the position midseason, a new one must be chosen within the week by the team's players.
