Valentine Prudhomme grew up playing ball in the parish schools deep in the Bayou. His life was simple, school, chores, house upkeep and playing basketball. Growing up in the backwoods, and off the grid gave him a humble appreciation of life. Growing up in the deep swamps with his parents and many siblings provided him with more than enough things to keep busy with, and more than a handful of people to practice basketball with. It also gave him no distractions to becoming the powerhouse the bayou fox has become, exploding on the college scene, after doing very well in his high school.
Although his school didn't place for any state awards, mainly due to a lack of players to choose from, it was understood that Valentine was destined for greatness. Sadly, many times greatness comes at a price. When the hurricanes hit in his early youth, he lost his father, and half his siblings. He spent a good chunk of the next months living in government shelters, until their property was deemed acceptable to live in. It was then he got his first real taste of modernity, watching the FBA games in the rec centers, and playing ball, and keeping up with many teenagers years older than him.
Basketball then had became more than just a hobby he excelled at, it was his therapy for dealing with loss. He'd lose himself for hours shooting hoops. It was a talent he sought to use to help others In fact, he began to use his skills at scoring points to the benefit of all, doing basketball contests for charity to help those displaced by the floods.
Destiny is something that the fox keeps very close to him, following in his mother's footsteps as a practitioner of Voodoo. To him the game of basketball is not just about one team vs. another, instead he sees it as a spiritual experience, one we wants to excel in, to bring honor and joy to his ancestors whom he know are watching every game he plays. Valentine is a very Faith first sort of fellow, and unashamedly so. To him, using his talents to show the world that anyone can make it, propels him to work ever harder, every day. He strives to bring honor to the memory of those who have left this world behind, on the court and in school.
He graduated from his small parish high school with honors, and quickly applied to the Predatorial Industrial Academy of New Orleans, hoping to learn a skilled trade that he could use to earn money to assist his family. He worked as a groundskeeper and general maintenance at the school to pay for his classes, living in a small rented shed just off campus.
When he tried out for the basketball team, few thought the fox would have what it took, and were shocked at the sheer intensity the man brought to the floor. Harkening to his Faith, and his beliefs, he makes a point of ashing his face before every game. His excitement and intensity, coupled with his appearance have given him the nickname "Bad JuJu". During his 2nd year, he had been content to simply graduate and move back to the swamps, even though his coached insisted he try out for the FBA.
During a ceremony that night, he begged for a sign of what to do, and it was the next day that the Biloxi Mudpuppies announced their name change to Voodoo. Valentine took that as instruction to make it to the big times. While excitable and fierce on the court, Valentine is a humble soul, who only wants to help others and every ounce a team player. He rejects most modern trappings, things he never grew up around, instead focusing on the simple things like his faith and his sport.
