Adolfa Emilia Girau Girau Gutièrrez (Otorongo, born January 5, 1988) is a Peruvian-born professional basketball player who most recently played for the Bangor Tides of the Furry Basketball Association (FBA).

Biography

Girau Girau grew up in Iquitos, a large city in the midst of the Peruvian rainforest, but relocated to Tampa, Florida at age thirteen with both her parents and older brother Virgilio Ivàn. Over her spell as a member of Furry Freedom High's basketball team, she established herself as one of the brightest rising talents in the state of Florida. She helped lead the team to a 44-4 record in her senior season, beating the school's all-time assist record and earning the MVP title for her performance in the 2007 state championship game.

After graduating from high school, Adolfa enrolled to Florida Midwest University as a consensus five-star recruit. During the two seasons she spent there, the otorongo stood out for her outstanding passing and ball-handling skills, forming a stellar backcourt alongside future FBA-player and head coach Tazel Tawner. At the end of her sophomore season, Girau Girau decided to forfeit her remaining eligibility and declare for the 2009 FBA Draft, being projected by most analysts as a second-round pick even though some raised concerns about her unpolished defensive game.

Despite ultimately going undrafted, Girau Girau was offered a league minimum contract by the Galveston Sand Dollars, the young otorongo becoming the first ever Peruvian player to play in the FBA. Despite showing promise in her first season and ultimately earning a 17.5 millions worth, five-year contract offer from the Beach Bucks, on the 2010 Draft night she was traded to the Alaska Arctics along with Leo Seppala, in a three-way trade that brought Ione Estrada to Galveston and Joshua Koda to the Santa Fe Whips. She further established herself her reputation as a journeywoman in the next few years, changing jersey three times over the course of the following three seasons and never being able to constantly make her way out of deep reserve. She isn't projected to become anything close to an All-Star, but is regarded as a valuable contribution to any line-up. The fact she's been able to survive in the league for this many seasons is vouching for it.

In July 2010, one year after making her debut in the FBA, Girau Girau acquired American citizenship. She made news in summer 2013 for getting engaged with the winner of the second edition of The Furry Voice, Gary Chatfield. The jaguar R&B singer reportedly asked her hand after the conclusion of the 2013-2014 regular season, and they married in September 2014.
